About ANS

The American Nuclear Society (ANS), founded in 1954, is the leading professional society dedicated to advancing the application of nuclear science and technology for the benefit of humanity. With more than 10,000 members worldwide—including engineers, scientists, educators, students, and policy specialists—ANS represents a diverse community working across industry, government, and academia. In addition to individual members, many of the world’s most respected companies and institutions support ANS as organizational members.

As a not-for-profit society, ANS provides a forum for collaboration and knowledge exchange through its technical divisions and professional groups, local sections across the United States and abroad, and student sections at universities. These communities foster professional growth, technical innovation, and engagement at every stage of a nuclear career.

ANS plays an active role in education, outreach, and standards development, helping to ensure that nuclear technologies are safe, reliable, and well understood. The Society’s Washington, D.C. office serves as a resource to policymakers and stakeholders, providing technical expertise and balanced perspectives on critical nuclear issues. Through its journals, conferences, position statements, and standards, ANS continues to shape the dialogue on nuclear science and technology and to support its members in addressing the energy, environmental, and security challenges of our time.
